Learn about Nurturing Parenting
First Steps/Parents as Teachers
The Basics Principles
Nurturing Parenting is an evidence based method intended  to improve the ways you interact with your child.  To nurture is to promote the growth and development of positive traits while respecting and caring for yourself and others.  Because what parents do matters so much in the life of children, some of the classes offered are:

 1. Nurturing Parenting Principles: Describes the seven principles of nurturing parents and focuses on helping parents realize their ability to impact children's emotional development by discussing ways to become nurturing parents.

2. Praising children and Their Behavior: Increases parental understanding in praising children for both BEING (love and acceptance just because you are you!) and DOING (praise for doing a good job or making a good effort!) and how to keep them separate.

3. Understanding feelings: Helps parents learn to recognize feelings in themselves and their children.  Teaches parents to help children manage their feelings and the actions that follow.

4. Building self-worth and self esteem: Helps parents to realize their ability to influence their children's overall feeling and worth.  Focus is on assigning responsibility that leads to personal responsibility.

5. Stress management for parents: Defines stress and identifies ways adults create it within their lives.  Learn practical ways to reduce stress both for the parents and children.  Discusses the disadvantage of long term stress on health and well being.

6. Anger Management 1 and 2: Anger is a universal emotion. Everyone gets angry at times, but many people have trouble dealing with their feelings of anger. We can't avoid feeling angry in certain situations. But we can learn some better ways to manage our anger.  This class will give the student some skills for managing anger. This a two part 1 hour class.  It will NOT count as completing court ordered anger management.
